Hey there! 👋 I’m Katie, the founder of Talking Tourist—so glad you’re here! 🌍✨
Travel is my passion—I’ve explored over 30 countries so far and whilst i’ve made some amazing travel memories, the ones that have meant the most to me are those where I connected with locals through their language.
But languages didn’t come easy for me. My school French teacher said I lacked “natural talent,” and I never had the chance to study Spanish. So at 18, I took matters into my own hands—apps, books, courses. They helped me understand, but speaking? That was a different story. I was terrified.
That changed at 22 when I booked a solo trip to Ecuador. Real conversations with locals pushed me past the fear. I realized the best way to learn a language is to use it.
That’s why I created Talking Tourist—a space where language learners can practice speaking with native teachers online before they travel, giving you the closest thing to immersion in a country you can get. Because confidence in conversation changes everything.
